2 former employees accused of stealing $390k from Grays Harbor Community Hospital, physicians group

A 64-year-old mother and 45-year-old daughter allegedly stole $390,000 from Aberdeen, Wash.-based Grays Harbor Community Hospital and its Harbor Medical Group, according to The Olympian.

The daughter, a former controller for the physicians group, and her mother, a former GHCH employee, were reportedly arrested last week and charged with multiple counts of first-degree theft.

According to the report, police said bank records and a forensic audit show the two unnamed individuals stole money via direct deposit and fraudulently written checks from September 2015 through April 2017. Authorities said the thefts ended after staff confronted the daughter about not paying GHCH's taxes. The daughter revealed to police she did not spend the money on anything extravagant but rather on everyday things and on funeral expenses for her father and uncle.

A GHCH spokesperson confirmed the mother previously worked for the hospital and the daughter was previously a controller for the physicians group. However, she declined to comment further, citing an ongoing investigation.
