14 patients robbed during Illinois hospital burglary

Megan Knowles -

Fourteen patients or former patients of UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, Ill., lost personal items valued at more than $2,000 during a burglary at the hospital, according to a Journal Star report.

A hospital employee discovered the burglary Wednesday morning after finding a locked cabinet drawer had been opened. The patients lost personal items including cash, jewelry, credit cards and IDs.

The hospital's surveillance video showed a male entering an office in the registration area of the hospital's main building and forcibly opening a locked drawer.

The majority of the items were contained in sealed envelopes or bags. The video later displayed the suspect entering two restrooms, where officials found the empty envelopes. Police have not yet identified the suspect.
