The following hospital lawsuits were reported since April 20, beginning with the most recent.

1. Pennsylvania hospital to pay $491k to settle false billing case
Abington (Pa.) Hospital – Jefferson Health agreed to pay the federal government $491,672 to resolve False Claims Act allegations.

2. Missouri hospital and clinic to pay $34M to settle false billing allegations
Mercy Hospital Springfield (Mo.) and Mercy Clinic Springfield (Mo.) Communities agreed to pay the federal government $34 million to resolve allegations they violated the False Claims Act.

3. Feds investigate UHS psychiatric hospitals' billing practices
An investigation into whether King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services' psychiatric hospitals hold patients longer than necessary to maximize reimbursement from insurers broadened to include the FBI and Department of Defense.

4. Physician who raised concerns about concurrent surgeries at NY hospital wins retaliation lawsuit
A New York Supreme Court judge ruled that a neurosurgeon was retaliated against by his former employer for objecting to a policy that allowed another surgeon to oversee two spine surgeries at the same time.

5. Lawsuit claims Minn. hospital failed to protect teen patient from sexual assault
University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview in Minneapolis is facing a lawsuit after a developmentally disabled teen was allegedly sexually assaulted twice while in the hospital's emergency department.

6. Steward, physicians square off in $60M legal fight involving incentive payments
Boston-based Steward Health Care and one of its largest affiliated physician groups, Compass Medical Group of East Bridgewater (Mass.), are suing one another for fraud and breach of contract over millions of dollars in physician payments.  

7. Michigan hospital pays $791k to resolve false billing allegations
Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester, Mich., agreed to pay $791,047 to settle false claims allegations.

8. Shuttered NC hospital's settlement over improper layoff notifications receives preliminary approval
A judge gave preliminary approval to Kansas City, Mo.-based HMC/CAH's settlement in a class-action lawsuit claiming the hospital operator didn't give employees proper notice before laying them off.

9. UPMC sues health plan co-owned by Highmark, claims insurer underpaid since 2013
Pittsburgh-based UPMC is accusing Pittsburgh-based Gateway Health Plan of cutting payments for care provided at UPMC hospitals.

10. Partners, Brigham and Women's to pay $10M to settle research fraud suit
Boston-based Partners HealthCare and Brigham and Women's Hospital agreed to pay $10 million to resolve allegations that a Brigham and Women's stem cell research laboratory fraudulently obtained funding from the National Institutes of Health.

11. IU Health, HealthNet pay $18M to resolve false billing allegations
Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health and HealthNet, a federally qualified health center that primarily provides care to low-income populations, agreed to pay the federal government and Indiana a combined $18 million to resolve False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute allegations.

12. UPMC, laundry provider sued again over mold outbreak
Pittsburgh-based UPMC and Paris Cleaners, the health system's linen services provider, are facing yet another lawsuit over a mold outbreak discovered in 2015.
