Philips launches AI incubator with 19 startups

Royal Philips has launched a global incubator for artificial intelligence startups working in the healthcare industry.

The Amsterdam-based health technology company selected 19 startups for the 12-week incubator program, which focuses on developing clinical decision support for radiology, ultrasound and oncology. Philips selected the 19 startups — which span 14 countries — out of a pool of 750 applicants, many of which hailed from the company's innovation hubs in China, India, the Netherlands and the U.S.

During the Philips Healthworks program, Philips will provide the startups with health technology expertise and access to its partners, including hospitals, universities and financial organizations. Philips will help the startups build, test and scale their ideas, and ultimately assess whether their solutions offer opportunities for future collaborations.

"At Philips, we use intelligent technology to improve people's health across the health continuum — from healthy living and prevention to diagnosis, treatment and home care — while also increasing the efficiency of healthcare delivery," Alberto Prado, head of Philips Healthworks, said in a news release. "This new collaboration program recognizes the role that startup companies play in bringing breakthrough healthcare innovations to the market."
