Mayo Clinic, ASU grant $30K to three healthcare innovations

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University have announced the three winners of its innovation hackathon event.

The event dubbed Mayo Clinic Hack for Health Innovation, granted three winning healthcare innovations $30,000, according to a June 2 press release. The grants were initially set to be $5,000, but were increased as the innovation impressed ASU leaders and faculty.

The inventions include:

  1. "Hey Mayo!," an app that allows nurses to track their patients' pain level.

  2. Rest Ezzz Solution Technology, a wearable monitoring device that can be used to reduce nocturnal awakenings of hospitalized patients.

  3. Just Scan It, a redesign of charting workflow that allows nurses to perform shortcuts to easily document patients' information into an EHR system.

The hackathon, which was open to students, nurses, physicians and health professionals, was hosted at Phoenix-based ASU Health Future Center on March 23-25.
