Richmond, Va.-based Richmonders Involved to Strengthen our Communities is teaming up with VCU Health System and HCA Virginia Health System, also in Richmond, to help local residents in "distressed neighborhoods" land healthcare jobs, according to a Richmond Times-Dispatch report.

RISC — an interracial, interfaith, nonpartisan organization — and the two healthcare providers will partner for the employment initiative that seeks to help unemployed or underemployed people find entry-level jobs in healthcare, according to the article.

The aim is to "address the larger question of poverty" in the Richmond region, Steve Saltzberg, chairman of RISC's jobs committee, told Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Mr. Saltzberg said in the report that other local organizations — such as Church Hill Activities and Training, the city's Workforce Pipeline program and the Capital Region Workforce Development Board — will help refer candidates to the hospitals for the initiative.

Entry-level positions that may be filled through the initiative include dietary employees, housekeeping and transporters, as well as other positions such as certified nursing assistants or phlebotomists.
