NYU Langone-Brooklyn bumps pay for 900 nurses

Nine hundred union employees at NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn will receive raises under a new contract, according to the union that represents them.

The Federation of Nurses/UFT said the two-year deal addresses salaries, experience and specialty training, and staffing.

Under the agreement, base salary increased 3 percent on March 1. It will also increase by 2.5 percent on March 1, 2021, and 0.5 percent on Sept. 1, 2021.

Union leaders said other contract provisions include increased staffing based on patients' acuity and on the nursing unit where they will receive care as well as language that allows nurses to transfer to or be educated for different units within NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn.

The agreement also offers a wage differential based on experience and increases the clinical specialty differential by 7 percent over the contract term.

Lorena Modesto, a postanesthesia care unit nurse, praised the contract in a union news article, saying it protects workers' rights and work conditions.

Becker's Hospital Review has reached out to the hospital and will update the story if more information is available.
