Becker's Hospital Review reported the following hospital-union events in September.
1. About 50 Kaiser Permanente employees blocked traffic in front of the healthcare giant's downtown Sacramento, Calif., office on Sept. 2 as part of a planned Labor Day protest in five cities.
2. Registered nurses at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Mass., filed unfair labor practice charges at the U.S. National Labor Relations Board's Boston office against Dallas-based Steward Health Care.
3. Unionized workers at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Ore., reached two-year contracts with hospital management.
4. About 2,200 nurses at the University of Chicago Medical Center went on strike Sept. 20.
5. Nurses at Tenet hospitals in Florida, California and Arizona went on strike Sept. 20.
6. The union representing nurses at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn., called off an Oct. 3 strike after reaching a tentative contract agreement with hospital management.
7. The threat of a nationwide strike was withdrawn after Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente and unions representing its workers reached a tentative agreement on a national, four-year contract.
