Hospitals and unions: 5 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker's Hospital Review has reported the following hospital-union events — including protests and contract agreements — since Jan. 25.

1. California nurses threaten daylong strike
Nurses at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., said they may go on strike Feb. 15 over staffing issues.

2. Massachusetts nurses union vote upheld
A federal labor board dismissed objections filed by New Bedford, Mass.-based St. Luke's Hospital alleging voter fraud in a Nov. 29 unionization election.

3. Nurses at California community hospital give strike OK
Registered nurses at Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley, Calif., voted Feb. 4 to authorize their bargaining team to call a strike.

4. Hospital unionization effort falls short in California
Pomona (Calif.) Valley Hospital Medical Center service and technical employees failed in their bid to unionize after a nearly three-year effort.

5. Pennsylvania nurses approve labor deal, avert February strike
Unionized nurses at Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) General Hospital approved a new contract and canceled a Feb. 13 strike.
