California hospital nurses authorize strike

Nurses at Mountain View, Calif.-based El Camino Hospital authorized a strike July 16 amid contract negotiations, according to the Mountain View Voice.

The vote covers nurses represented by the Professional Resource for Nurses. Ninety-five percent of nurse voters were in favor of authorizing a strike, according to the union, which represents 1,269 nurses at El Camino campuses in Mountain View and Los Gatos, Calif.

Union officials told the Voice they will call a strike "if deemed necessary."

Key sticking points in negotiations reportedly have included pay for on-call, per diem and night shift nurses as well as pay for longtime employees.
