A picket Tuesday night outside Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Hospital drew hundreds of healthcare professionals, nurses and community members, according to a Lansing State Journal report.
The news came from the Professional Employee Council of Sparrow Hospital, an affiliate of the Michigan Nurses Association representing 2,300 Sparrow nurses and healthcare professionals.
The union said workers were picketing "to let the public know about their continuing efforts to reach a contract with administrators that is patient-centered."
PECSH/MNA and the hospital have been in contract negotiations since August. The previous contract expired in the fall.
Union representatives said one key issue for workers is staffing issues, which they contend exist in many units, including the emergency department.
But Sparrow defended its staffing in a statement to the Lansing State Journal, calling its staffing guidelines "among the best in Michigan."
