Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Hospital reached a tentative agreement with the Professional Employee Council of Sparrow Hospital/Michigan Nurses Association on a new contract, according to a Lansing State Journal report.

Last week, a picket outside the hospital drew hundreds of healthcare professionals, nurses and community members. The Professional Employee Council of Sparrow Hospital, an affiliate of the Michigan Nurses Association that represents 2,300 nurses and health professionals at Sparrow, have been been in contract negotiations with the hospital since August. The groups said workers were picketing "to let the public know about their continuing efforts to reach a contract with administrators that is patient-centered."

No details were released regarding the tentative agreement. A ratification vote is expected in 2018. If ratified, the contract will be retroactively enforced from Oct. 31, 2017, when the original union contract expired.

In a Facebook post, MNA announced the news of the tentative agreement and said, "When nurses and healthcare professionals stand up for their patients and communities, everyone wins. Congratulations!"
