Hospitals and unions: 8 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker's Hospital Review has reported the following hospital-union events — including protests, contract agreements and legal issues — since Oct. 24.

1. Hackensack Meridian Health hospital nurses ratify labor deal
Nurses at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, N.J., ratified a contract agreement with Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health.

2. Vermont hospital workers vote against unionization
Nurses at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt., voted against forming a union.

3. Northwell Health nurses, nurse practitioners ratify new labor deal
New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health reached a three-year contract agreement with the union representing nurses and nurse practitioners. 

4. Johns Hopkins stifled unionizing efforts, federal labor board finds
The National Labor Relations Board found evidence to substantiate a union's claim that Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Hospital tried to hinder organizing efforts.

5. University of California hospital workers end strike
Thousands of University of California unionized workers ended a three-day strike at UC medical centers on Oct. 25.

6. HHS employees picket contract deadlock
HHS employees picketed Oct. 25 to resume contract negotiations after the agency declared an impasse in July.

7. Some healthcare workers at California hospital don't want to remain unionized
A group of healthcare workers at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, Calif., seeks to decertify their union. 

8. Pennsylvania nurses authorize strike
Nurses at Indiana (Pa.) Regional Medical Center voted to authorize union leaders to call a strike.
