1. Pennsylvania hospital nurses allege unsafe staffing levels
Pottstown (Pa.) Hospital nurses picketed May 8, alleging there are safety issues at the facility.

2. University of California hospital workers begin strike May 7: 8 things to know
Unionized University of California service workers at hospitals and college campuses began a three-day strike May 7 amid contract negotiations. The workers are represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299.

A University of California workers' strike widened May 8 as members of the University Professional and Technical Employees and California Nurses Association walked off their jobs in solidarity.

4. Shasta Regional Medical Center workers vote to unionize
Healthcare workers at Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding, Calif., voted in favor of unionization May 1.

5. California hospital's dress code violates NLRB rules
The National Labor Relations Board determined policies requiring that direct patient care providers wear hospital-approved pins and hospital-branded badge reels at Long Beach (Calif.) Medical Center violate the National Labor Relations Act.
