Hospitals add nearly 11k jobs in June

The healthcare industry contributed 40,100 of the overall 223,000 new jobs that were added in the U.S. last month, according to the most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This is a decrease from May's numbers, when healthcare added 46,800 jobs. However, it is above average growth, as employment in healthcare had grown by an average of 34,000 per month over the prior 12 months.

Within the healthcare industry, hospital employment grew by 10,600 jobs in June. Ambulatory healthcare services added more, contributing 22,600 new jobs. Most of those came from home healthcare services (5,300) but physician offices (2,700) and outpatient care centers (2,500) also contributed.

Nursing and residential care facilities added 6,900 jobs last month.
