10 Up-and-Coming Healthcare Jobs for 2014

Healthcare can be one of the strongest sectors in the labor market overall, but some positions in the industry are poised for more growth than others this year.

"With increased access to services and an aging population, demand for healthcare labor will continue to grow this year, which is good news for job seekers in the industry," Jason Lovelace, president of CareerBuilder Healthcare, said in a news release.

CareerBuilder and MiracleWorkers.com, a job site for workers in healthcare disciplines, put together a list of 10 of the best-paying, fastest-growing jobs in healthcare for 2014.

The list is based on occupations that grew at least 6 percent from 2010 to 2013, have at least 30,000 total jobs and fall in a wage category of at least $22 an hour. All of the occupations are also projected to add more jobs this year.

1. Diagnostic medical sonographers
•    Median hourly earnings: $31.77
•    Grew 10 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 5,672 jobs)

2. Medical scientists (excluding epidemiologists)
•    Median hourly earnings: $37.09
•    Grew 10 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 9,076 jobs)

3. Physical therapist assistants
•    Median hourly earnings: $25.08
•    Grew 10 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 6,388 jobs)

4. Nurse anesthetists
•    Median hourly earnings: $71.43
•    Grew 9 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 3,010 jobs)

5. Marriage and family therapists
•    Median hourly earnings: $22.40
•    Grew 8 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 3,056 jobs)

6. Physical therapists
•    Median hourly earnings: $37.96
•    Grew 8 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 14,975 jobs)

7. Nurse practitioners
•    Median hourly earnings: $43.26
•    Grew 8 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 7,832 jobs)

8. Health educators
•    Median hourly earnings: $23.46
•    Grew 7 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 3,599 jobs)

9. Occupational therapists
•    Median hourly earnings: $36.27
•    Grew 6 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 6,368 jobs)

10. Respiratory therapists
•    Median hourly earnings: $26.86
•    Grew 6 percent from 2010 to 2013 (added 6,728 jobs)
