Union nurses accuse Baystate Health of illegal bargaining practices

Kelly Gooch -

Registered nurses at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass., have filed six federal unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board, accusing the hospital's owner, Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health, of engaging in illegal bargaining practices.

The approximately 200 BFMC nurses, who are represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, filed the charges this week. They specifically allege Baystate has "repeatedly failed to provide information requested by nurses, shown a pattern of delays and refused to negotiate over mandatory bargaining subjects such as nurse workload, health insurance, retirement and health and safety language," according to the union.

Baystate did not immediately return an email from Becker's Hospital Review seeking comment.

The BFMC nurses began negotiations with Baystate last fall, and another bargaining session is slated for Wednesday, the union said.
