The Oklahoma State Department of Health, which has been facing financial struggles since at least October, plans to cut about one-third of its budget by  proposing layoffs and program cuts, News OK reports.

As part of its corrective plan, the department proposed to lay off 198 people and end grants supporting child-abuse prevention programs and health centers. Its plan would slash the budget by about twice as much as the legislature ordered.

The job cuts would save the department about $10.1 million for the budget year beginning in July.
