Hospitals and unions: 9 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker's Hospital Review reported the following hospital-union events — including protests, elections and contract agreements — after March 29.

1. A union is accusing Beaver, Pa.-based Heritage Valley Health System of retaliating against registered nurses.

2. University of California service and patient care workers went on strike April 10 over alleged illegal conduct by the school.

3. The NYC Hospital Alliance and New York State Nurses Association reached a tentative  agreement affecting more than 10,000 New York City nurses.

4. Workers from Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente revealed plans to protest April 9 to raise awareness about the healthcare giant's care of Medicaid patients.

5. Nurses at Alameda (Calif.) Hospital and San Leandro (Calif.) Hospital, both part of the Alameda Health System, picketed April 3 to raise awareness about contract talks.

6. Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., settled labor disputes with engineers and imaging technicians.

7. About 50 resident and intern physicians at Highland Hospital in Oakland, Calif., walked off the job for 20 minutes April 3 to protest hospital administrators' contract proposals.

8. Healthcare workers at Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center revealed a series of billboards highlighting profits and CEO pay at the hospital.  

9. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente and more than 85,000 healthcare workers nationwide will resume negotiations this month.
