3 ways to engage the next generation of RNs

In a recent blog post, Cornerstone OnDemand's Christine Corning, RN, BSN and manager in Healthcare Vertical Sales, highlighted 3 ways to engage the recent graduates from nursing schools.

A recent study from Georgetown University predicts the economy will create 1.6 million nurse job openings by 2020, according to the post. However, nursing schools are struggling to meet this growing demand.

In order to engage the next generation of nurses and encourage their continuance in the profession, Corning offers three strategies:

1. Provide 24/7 access to training

Traning programs, live sessions, reference material and more provides nurses with the resources to provide the best care for their patients.

2. Offer Real-time evaluation

Offering proactive feedback consistently leads to peformance improvement and lower employee turnover.

3. Align indivdual goals with organizational mission

Corning notes, "People typicaly pursue a career in healthcare because they want to help people - but the multitude of small tasks and important details can be distracting from this larger goal."

Taking the time to align each nurse's goals with the hospital or health system's missions will help employees complete tasks while truly caring for the patient.
