WVU Health System adds 11th hospital

Ripley, W.Va.-based Jackson General Hospital officially joined Morgantown-based West Virginia University Health System Oct. 1.

The 25-bed critical access hospital entered into a management agreement with WVU Hospitals in September 2018 and signed a letter of intent to join WVU Health System in January.

With the transaction complete, officials will begin planning for a replacement facility for Jackson General Hospital. WVU Health System said the goal is to begin construction on the new hospital as soon as required approvals are secured.

WVU Health System, which is now comprised of 11 member hospitals, is the largest health system in West Virginia. It also manages five hospitals and is clinically affiliated with two others.
