New Martinsville, W.Va.-based Wetzel County Hospital and Morgantown-based West Virginia University Medicine agreed to an affiliation to better meet the needs of the community and to build on the organizations' existing relationship, according to The Intelligencer.

The affiliation will allow for increased clinical integration between the two facilities and their individual affiliates and the development of onsite specialty services, such as cardiology, surgery, oncology, orthopedics and women's health services, according to the article.

"As the state's flagship academic medical center, it is our responsibility to treat people in all corners of the state and the region. But we also understand that traveling to Morgantown for care is difficult for many people. That's why we want to bring our experts to people in their communities, where it is most beneficial to them," said Albert Wright, president and CEO of WVU Medicine. "We are grateful for the warm reception we’ve already received at WetzelCountyHospital, and we look forward to building off of the great foundation that already exists there."
