Vanderbilt children's hospital to manage NICU at 2 Erlanger hospitals

Nashville, Tenn.-based Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt entered into a management services agreement to operate neonatal intensive care unit services at two Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System hospitals, Erlanger announced June 11.

Here are three things to know:

1. Under the agreement, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital will begin operating NICU services at Children's Hospital at Erlanger and Erlanger East Hospital, both in Chattanooga, Dec. 4. The children's hospital will also provide a medical director and director of nursing for the NICU programs at both institutions.

2. Erlanger officials issued a request for information in May 2017 and received applications from three organizations. Officials settled on Monroe Carell Jr. Children's, as the institution shares Erlanger's quality goals and achievements.

3. Erlanger and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the parent company of the children's hospital, formed a strategic affiliation in 2016. Erlanger also joined the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network during the same timeframe.
