UPMC Sells Irish Hospital

Staff -

Pittsburgh-based UPMC has agreed to sell its hospital in Dublin, Ireland, to billionaire Denis O'Brien, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.

UPMC Beacon Hospital in Dublin is a full-service hospital licensed for 214 beds. The transaction will not include the nearby UPMC Beacon Hospital Cancer Centre, according to the report. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

UPMC had reportedly been shopping UPMC Beacon due to the hospital's steep financial losses in 2011 and 2012. In a statement, UPMC Beacon President and CEO Joel Yuhas told the Post-Gazette: "UPMC Ireland remains committed to its mission to provide world-class, high-quality healthcare in Ireland and will seek partners that share this vision."

UPMC's international arm also controls facilities in Italy, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Singapore, China and Japan.
