University of Louisville President Comments on Hospital Merger Rejection

Staff -
University of Louisville President James Ramsey, PhD, broke his silence on the rejection of University Hospital's proposed merger with Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare in Louisville, Ky., and St. Joseph Health System in Lexington, Ky., according to a report by WDRB News.

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear and Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway rejected the three-system merger in the beginning of January 2012. Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare and St. Joseph Health System have plans to merge without University Hospital to form KentuckyOne Health.

Dr. Ramsey stands by the University Hospital's need for financial aid and plans to pursue alternative financial resources for the hospital to continue offering healthcare to the Louisville community.
