SSM, U of Missouri Health stall hospital sale talks

St. Louis-based SSM Health has stalled talks with the University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia to sell two hospitals, though the two organizations intend to move forward with a partnership agreement, according to the The Mexico Ledger.

In August SSM signed a letter of intent with MU Health Care to sell SSM Health St. Mary's hospitals in Jefferson City and Mexico, Mo. While negotiations have progressed slower than expected, the systems will move forward with strategic partnerships that will expand access to certain cardiac specialties and orthopedic care.

"While we continue the due diligence process, SSM Health and MU Health Care are also discussing opportunities to partner together today to best serve the people of Jefferson City, Mexico, and surrounding communities both now and into the future – with or without a formal transfer of ownership," said Laura Kaiser, CEO of SSM.
