SSM Health to sell 3 hospitals

Ayla Ellison -

SSM Health, a nonprofit system based in St. Louis, has signed letters of intent to sell hospitals in Jefferson City, Maryville and Mexico, Mo.

SSM Health signed a letter of intent to sell SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital-Jefferson City and SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital-Audrain in Mexico to Columbia-based University of Missouri Health Care. The deal would also include SSM's outpatient, home care, hospice and medical group locations throughout the region.

SSM also signed a letter of intent to sell SSM Health St. Francis Hospital-Maryville and its affiliated operations to St. Joseph, Mo.-based Mosaic Life Care.

"In order to provide safe, high-quality healthcare services that are convenient and affordable, health systems must integrate all points of service across the entire continuum of care," said Laura S. Kaiser, president and CEO of SSM Health. "Given the close proximity of MU Health Care and Mosaic Life Care's existing services, we feel this transition of ownership will best serve the people of Jefferson City, Mexico, Maryville and surrounding communities."

The due diligence process is expected to take several months. The terms of the transactions are still being finalized.
