Shuttered California hospital receives 2 proposals to reopen

Ayla Ellison -

A decline in inpatient volumes and significant financial losses caused Coalinga (Calif.) Regional Medical Center to close June 12 and subsequently enter bankruptcy protection. The hospital may get the chance to reopen, as it now has two management proposals, according to The Fresno Bee.

The hospital's board heard a proposal Nov. 7 from Cura HealthCare, a private company based in Carlsbad, Calif. On Nov. 8, the board will hear a proposal from Gurpreet Singh, MD, with Modesto, Calif.-based American Advanced Management Group.

"It's very encouraging that they want to reopen an acute care facility, and that's what this community wants and that's what they need," Coalinga Regional Medical Center CEO Wayne Allen told The Fresno Bee.
