SCL Health System to Form Joint Venture With National Jewish Health

Staff -

SCL Health System and its primary hospital, Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, both based in Denver, have signed a letter of intent to create a joint venture with one of the leading respiratory hospitals in the country.

SCL Health System signed the deal with National Jewish Health, a Denver-based provider focused solely on research and treatment of patients with respiratory, cardiac and immune disorders.

Under the deal, National Jewish Health and SCL Health System will mutually own and operate a new entity, though each organization would retain its own assets and brand names. The joint venture is currently unnamed. The new organization would work to provide patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, and clinical operations at National Jewish Health and Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital will be jointly managed.

"By coming together, we will align inpatient and outpatient care teams so all of our patients experience highly coordinated care that will improve their health and enrich their lives," said Bain Farris, president and CEO of Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital, in a news release. "Patients and families will benefit from access to a joint primary and specialty care network that is geographically robust and focused on every patient's individual needs."

Financial details of the joint venture were not released. A definitive joint operating agreement is expected to be signed in the first quarter of 2014.
