Rutgers, Rowan University Merger Approved by Legislature

The New Jersey state legislature approved a bill last week that would merge Rutgers' campus in Camden, N.J., with Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., and divide the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey among the two campuses, according to a Courier Post report.

The bill also calls for research university-status for Rowan University, which is expected to collaborate closely with Rutgers-Camden on research in the health and sciences, according to the report.

UMDNJ's University Hospital in Newark would remain largely unaffected and will continue to operate as a non-profit.
