Pennsylvania health systems to merge

Butler (Pa.) Health System and Clarion (Pa.) Healthcare System have signed a definitive agreement to merge.

The systems entered into the definitive agreement roughly five months after signing a letter of intent to explore a merger. The transaction still requires regulatory approval.

"Both systems believe that by combining their efforts, they can solidify the future of care in their communities, providing high quality, accessible, and affordable services," states a press release from Clarion Healthcare. "By working with BHS, CHS will be in a stronger position to make strategic investments in new programs, services and technology, all of which are important to keeping quality care close to home."

Clarion Healthcare has four affiliates, including a 70-bed community hospital. Butler Health System includes 326-bed Butler Memorial Hospital and several subsidiaries.
