Penn Medicine expands into UK

The University of Pennsylvania Health System is expanding into the U.K. with the opening of a facility in London, the Philadelphia-based health system announced Nov. 19.

The system officially opened Penn Medicine London on Nov. 19. The inaugural facility allows U.K. and European Union patients access to Penn Medicine's world-class care team, as well as opportunities for collaboration between Penn Medicine and U.K. medical schools.

"Penn Medicine has a long history — dating past the founding of our nation — as a global healthcare leader, and we are pleased to extend our reach with a physical presence in the U.K.," Ralph Muller, CEO of Penn Medicine, said in a statement. "We have always been proud of our role in training the world, and this initiative advances that mission by opening new doors and forging new relationships both in the UK and across Europe."

"Penn Medicine London will provide enhanced access for patients seeking care from teams who are continuing to pioneer the next generation of prevention and treatment strategies for diseases of all kinds," J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, executive vice president of Penn Medicine and dean of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. "The initiative also provides opportunities for innovative collaborations between Penn and U.K. and E.U. medical schools, including research-focused projects as well as physician exchange programs, ensuring the world’s brightest medical minds continue to share ideas and learn from each other."
