Penn. approves 2 mergers with Geisinger Health System

Two mergers involving Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System have been approved by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Geisinger authority members learned Sept. 23, according to The Daily Item.

The commonwealth gave the green light to the merger of the Danville Ambulance Service with Geisinger affiliate Holy Spirit EMS. In another merger, the New Jersey Superior Court on Sept. 16 approved the agreement for AtlantiCare health system in Atlantic City, N.J., to become part of Geisinger Health System, according to the report.

Geisinger Health System lead counsel Dave Felicio said a clearance letter was received and the closing on the merger with Danville Ambulance Service is set for Sept. 30, effective Oct. 1. The agreement to merge was initially signed July 14.

The closing for the integration of AtlantiCare into Geisinger Health System is slated for Oct. 1, according to the report. The two entities signed a letter of intent to merge in November 2013 and a definitive agreement in May 2014.
