New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia strengthened their alliance by creating a joint fetal medicine program and aligning the Mount Sinai Children's Heart Center and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Cardiac Center.
The fetal medicine program will provide expectant mothers carrying babies with risk of or identified anomalies with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and consultation during a one-day visit. Patients will also have access to Mount Sinai and CHOP physicians to discuss the presumptive diagnoses and possible treatments.
The affiliation between Mount Sinai Children's Heart Center and CHOP Cardiac Center will provide patients access to the joint fetal heart program, which aims to diagnose congenital heart disease as early as 12 to 14 weeks after conception. Physicians from both institutions will collaborate and share information about diagnoses and treatment options. Physicians will also have access to telehealth technology during all points of treatment to provide direct consultations.
The organizations initially created the alliance in 2015, with a focus on providing services for fetal medicine, pediatric cardiac care and pediatric oncology.
