McLaren Health Care to open retail clinics, primary care centers in Walgreens stores

Alia Paavola -

Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care plans to open retail health clinics, urgent care centers and primary care sites in several Walgreens stores throughout Michigan.

The 14-hospital network and retail pharmacy giant hope to expand outpatient service and pharmacy offerings in the state as the healthcare landscape shifts.

"Consumers increasingly seek value and convenience when choosing a health care setting, and fewer — particularly younger adults — have a relationship with a primary care physician," said Philip Incarnati, president and CEO of McLaren Health Care. "Walgreens has a reputation for delivering outstanding service and customer experience, and we are proud to work with them to create these new clinics and give Michigan residents more options for quality, affordable care when and where they need it."

As part of the collaboration, Walgreens will buy the prescription files and pharmacy inventory assets of McLaren pharmacies and operate some on-site pharmacies.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
