Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital officials announced May 23 that they have finalized plans to acquire Exeter (N.H.) Health Resources, according to the Boston Business Journal.
The parties signed a definitive agreement roughly one year after MGH announced plans to incorporate Exeter Health Resources, a single-hospital system, with Dover, N.H.-based Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. MGH, part of Boston-based Partners HealthCare, acquired Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in 2016, according to the report.
The agreement, which is subject to regulatory approval, calls for the creation of a new entity that would be the parent of both Exeter Health Resources and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and will be part of MGH.
"This agreement represents an important step in the hospitals' shared goal to enhance, grow and strengthen healthcare services in the Seacoast community," MGH President Peter L. Slavin, MD, said in a press release. "This proposed affiliation will harness the excellence and expertise of three top hospitals who will collectively offer southern New Hampshire residents the outstanding care they have come to expect — close to home."
