Jewish Hospital partner spins off $16M interest in cardiovascular center

The University of Louisville (Ky.) will pick up the remaining ownership and real estate interest in a cardiovascular institute it owns with a Jewish Hospital partner, according to The Lane Report.

The cardiovascular partnership between the U of Louisville and Louisville-based Jewish Hospital began 13 years ago with the creation of the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute, also in Louisville. The Jewish Heritage Fund for Excellence jointly owned the institute with U of Louisville.

The sale, valued at more than $16 million, was long planned and came as JHFE moves to become a grant-making-only organization, according to the report.

In a statement to The Lane Report, U of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi, PhD, said: "Since 2006, the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute has provided world-class resources for UofL faculty researchers and physicians to study the myriad of causes of cardiovascular disease and develop ways to treat and ultimately cure it. We thank the Jewish Heritage Fund for Excellence for being our worthy partner in this effort and promise that we will continue this important work for the health of current and future generations to come."
