Hospital M&A update: 6 latest deals

The total number of healthcare mergers and acquisitions hit a record high in 2018, and dozens of deals have been announced so far this year.

Here are six transactions involving hospitals and health systems that were announced or finalized since Aug. 1:

1. Kootenai Health to acquire 2 hospitals
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho-based-based Kootenai Health entered into a letter of intent to acquire two critical access hospitals from Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health.

2. Shuttered Tennessee hospital sells for $200K
A physician assistant purchased Cumberland River Hospital in Celina, Tenn., which closed March 1.

3. Kentucky health system acquires 13th hospital
Lexington, Ky.-based Appalachian Regional Healthcare acquired Highlands Regional Medical Center, a 192-bed hospital in Prestonsburg, Ky., on Aug. 1.

4. Banner Health to acquire Colorado hospital
Phoenix-based Banner Health plans to acquire North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, which it has operated since 1995.

5. CHS divests hospitals in Tennessee, Texas
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems completed the sale of College Station (Texas) Medical Center and Tennova Healthcare-Lebanon (Tenn.).

6. Pennsylvania health systems to merge
Butler (Pa.) Health System and Clarion (Pa.) Healthcare System signed a definitive agreement to merge.
