Hospital M&A update: 11 latest deals

The total number of healthcare mergers and acquisitions hit a record high in 2018, and dozens of deals have been announced this year.

Here are 11 transactions involving hospitals and health systems that were announced, finalized or moved forward in the past two weeks:

1. 2 Illinois systems will create 14-hospital network
Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare finalized an agreement to merge with Evergreen Park, Ill.-based Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Centers. 

2. Dartmouth-Hitchcock, GraniteOne to merge
Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health and Manchester, N.H.-based GraniteOne Health signed an agreement to combine the two health systems.

3. Ascension sells Connecticut hospital
Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare acquired St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn., from St. Louis-based Ascension.

4. Illinois health system grows to 5 hospitals
Decatur (Ill.) Memorial Hospital officially joined Memorial Health System, a Springfield, Ill.-based network that now includes five hospitals.

5. Ochsner takes over Louisiana hospital as LifePoint exits market
New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System took over management of Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, La., on Oct. 1.

6. WVU Health System adds 11th hospital
Ripley, W.Va.-based Jackson General Hospital officially joined Morgantown-based West Virginia University Health System Oct. 1.

7. Quorum Health divests California hospital
Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health owns one hospital in California after completing the divestiture of Watsonville (Calif.) Community Hospital.

8. DeKalb Health joins Parkview Health, changes name
Auburn, Ind.-based DeKalb Health became the sixth community hospital to join Parkview Health on Oct. 1. 

9. CHS divests West Virginia hospital
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems completed the sale of 92-bed Bluefield (W.Va.) Regional Medical Center to Princeton (W.Va.) Community Hospital.

10. HCA to add 10th hospital in Georgia
Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, Ga., signed a letter of intent to join Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare.

11. Cleveland Clinic looks to expand hospital portfolio
Cleveland Clinic signed a letter of intent Sept. 27 to add Mercy Medical Center, a 476-bed hospital in Canton, Ohio, to its hospital portfolio.
