Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare entered into a nonbinding letter of intent to sell Lafayette, La.-based Women's & Children's Hospital to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, the Lafayette-based hospital announced June 28.

HCA and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center will continue the due diligence process for the next 90 to 120 days and work toward finalizing the sale.

Along with Women's & Children's Hospital, the sale will also include the hospital's Elaine M. Junca Women's Imaging Centre, Lafayette Surgicare, The Cancer & Infusion Center, Kid's Specialty Center and several physician practices.

Both institutions will continue operating without interruption throughout the sale process, which officials expect to close later this year pending regulatory approval.

HCA has announced a number of healthcare acquisitions in recent months. The health system announced plans June 1 to expand its Gulf Coast Division with the purchase of a hospital in Texas.

Once the sale is finalized, HCA will own three hospitals in Louisiana. HCA was also previously involved in the potential deal to jointly purchase Nashville, Tenn.-based physician services firm Envision Healthcare with global investment firm KKR. However, KKR proceeded to purchase Envision Healthcare independently for $9.9 billion June 11.

Editor's note: A previous version of this article stated HCA and KKR jointly acquired Envision Healthcare. However, KKR independently acquired Envision Healthcare June 11.
