Hackensack Gains More Support For Reopening of Pascack Hospital in NJ

The New Jersey Health Planning Board has voted 5-1 to recommend approval for Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center to reopen Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, N.J., according to a HUMC news release.

If approved, HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley will be a 128-bed, full-service, acute-care community hospital. Now the hospital's bid lies in the hands of State Health Commissioner Mary O'Dowd, who has 120 days to approve or reject the proposal.

Robert Garrett, president and CEO of HUMC, said the following in the release: "Today's meeting further demonstrated the community's overwhelming support for the new hospital and validates the strength of HUMC's application."

"We look forward to Commissioner Mary O'Dowd's decision and remain confident this fair and open process will lead to the opening of HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley, creating hundreds of good-paying jobs and finally bringing Westwood's community hospital home."
