Florida's Munroe Regional Medical Center Weighs Costs of Privatization

A consultant has identified 14 for-profit and non-profit companies that might be interested in a joint venture with Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla., according to a Star-Banner report.

The consultant, Ponder & Co. from Chicago, was hired by the Marion County Hospital District trustees to study options for addressing the long-term financial needs of the public hospital.

Consultants have explained that the hospital might benefit financially from a for-profit partner, but it would also need to give up major decision-making power, which has caused concern among some hospital trustees, board members, physicians and administrators.

The consultant group and a Munroe Workgroup, comprised of major stakeholders, will examine all the possible partnerships in the next 30 days.
