Envision Healthcare scoops up another physician practice in acquisition spree

Emily Rappleye -

Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Envision Healthcare's physician services division completed the acquisition of yet another physician group Thursday — the 50-physician Emergency Professional Services group in Phoenix.

Envision Healthcare is the product of the merger of Nashville, Tenn.-based AmSurg Corp., and Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Envision Healthcare Holdings. The physician staffing company joined the S&P 500 in December, and has kicked off the year with a series of rapid-fire acquisitions. It bought the 16-physician, Tuscon, Ariz.-based Oro Valley Anesthesia Tuesday and the 35-physician, Winter Haven, Fla.-based Sunshine Radiology Wednesday. Since the merger, Envision Healthcare has acquired five physician groups: two anesthesia groups, one radiology, one neonatal and one emergency medicine.

"We are encouraged by the level of interest that physician groups continue to express for being a part of our organization," Robert Coward, president of Envision's physician services, said in a press release. "Our execution of a strategy that positions us as a trusted partner to health systems is proving to be attractive to providers who focus on the delivery of high-quality care, across a care continuum, to patients in their communities."

EPS provides emergency medicine services at Phoenix-based Banner University Medical Center and three other Banner Health facilities.
