Children's National to absorb HSC Health Care System

Morgan Haefner -

Two Washington, D.C.-based children's health systems received regulatory approval to integrate, the organizations said Sept. 3.

HSC Health Care System will merge its pediatric hospital, outpatient therapy center, skilled nursing facility, home health services and health plan into Children's National as a wholly owned subsidiary.

The organizations signed a definitive agreement to combine in May. The health systems have a history of collaboration, working together on a national pilot to help pass the ACE Kids Act this spring. The law eases access to out-of-state care for children with complex medical needs.

Children's National and HSC Health Care said they are working on a five-year integration plan.
