Ascension ends sponsorship of Catholic Health in New York

Alyssa Rege -

St. Louis-based Ascension revealed plans to cease its corporate sponsorship of Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health, The Buffalo News.

Officials said there was no financial aspect to Ascension's decision to end its sponsorship of the five-hospital health system, according to the report.

In a statement to The Buffalo News, Joe McDonald, president and CEO of Catholic Health said the change "will have no effect on our patients, associates or physicians, and will in no way diminish our faith-based mission to serve those in need, which will continue under the sponsorship of the Diocese of Buffalo and Trinity Health." He also said the health system "greatly appreciate[s] the support" it received from Ascension since its founding roughly 20 years ago.

Catholic Health will still be able to contract services from Ascension, and officials reportedly told The Buffalo News the health system will "likely continue certain business contracts [with Ascension] in the future," according to the report.
