AmSurg's $7.8B offer rejected by TeamHealth

Emily Rappleye -

Knoxville, Tenn.-based TeamHealth quickly rejected an offer Tuesday to merge with Nashville, Tenn.-based AmSurg for a total enterprise value of $7.8 billion, or $71.47 per share, according to Reuters.

The ambulatory surgical center company, looking to bulk up as the industry consolidates, offered to pay $5.3 billion for the merger and to back TeamHealth's recent acquisition of North Hollywood, Calif.-based IPC Healthcare for $1.4 billion, according to the report.

The combined company — which would include 1,200 healthcare facilities and 20,000 clinicians — would continue under the TeamHealth name and be led by AmSurg CEO Christopher Holden, according to the report.

TeamHealth reportedly denied the cash-and-stock offer because it undervalued the company, according to Reuters.
