Adventist HealthCare to manage DC hospital, bring in new CEO

Gaithersburg, Md.-based Adventist HealthCare will take over operation of Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., under a management services agreement that begins Feb. 17.

As part of the three-year agreement, Howard University medical students and residents will be able to train and work at Adventist's network of three hospitals, and Adventist will work with the university to build a replacement hospital. Adventist will also bring in a new senior leadership team at the hospital.

"Adventist HealthCare and Howard University Hospital share long traditions of caring for our communities," Adventist President and CEO Terry Forde said in a Feb. 6 news release. "We want Howard to continue to be a vital healthcare provider to meet the growing needs of the community, the region and the country now and in the future."

Howard University Hospital's new CEO will be Anita L.A. Jenkins. She previously served as president of Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg, Ohio, and as COO of Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Adventist and Howard University finalized the agreement roughly seven months after signing a letter of intent to explore a partnership.
