Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health withdrew its bid to operate Mark Twain Medical Center, a 25-bed critical access hospital in San Andreas, Calif., the Mark Twain Health Care District said Wednesday, according to The Union Democrat.
Randy Smart, MD, executive director of the Mark Twain Health Care District, confirmed Adventist's decision not to draft a proposal to lease the facility during an interview with The Union Democrat Wednesday.
With Adventist out of the running, the healthcare district has three options: sell the hospital, operate independently or finalize a new lease agreement with San Francisco-based Dignity Health, which currently operates MTMC.
Dr. Smart said he believes the board, which is set to reconvene later this month to discuss the issue, will vote either to run the hospital independently or lease it to Dignity.
MTMC's current lease with Dignity expires Dec. 31, 2019, and the hospital is unable to simply renew the lease under state law.
More than 150 staff members and providers signed a petition in October to remain with Dignity, the report states.
