Abington Health, Holy Redeemer Health Call Off Merger

Staff -
Abington (Pa.) Health and Huntingdon Valley, Pa.-based Holy Redeemer Health System have decided to end discussions regarding a potential partnership to create a larger health system.

While the organizations are disappointed, they believe it is the right decision and in their best interests, according to a joint statement issued by the organizations.

Abington and Holy Redeemer announced their interest in partnering to form a regional health system in June. Following the announcement, physicians at Abington Memorial Hospital, the flagship hospital of Abington Health, voiced strong opposition to the merger. They were concerned with potential changes, such as Abington Memorial's plans to stop performing abortions to comply with Holy Redeemer's Catholic doctrine.
