14 hospital transactions and partnerships in June

The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place or were announced in June, beginning with the most recent.

1. Prime Healthcare gets go-ahead to purchase N.J. system from CHI
The New Jersey Superior Court approved Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services' Community Health Care Protection Act application, allowing the for-profit hospital operator to acquire Saint Clare's Health System, a three-hospital system based in Denville, N.J.

2. Prospect Medical Holdings to acquire 3 hospitals in Connecticut
Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings has plans to takeover Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital, Rockville General in Vernon, Conn., and Manchester (Conn.) Memorial.

3. Baptist Health System and Tenet to create joint venture
Birmingham, Ala.-based Baptist Health System and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare signed a definitive agreement to create a joint venture that will operate a healthcare network serving Birmingham and central Alabama.

4. Tenet completes USPI, Aspen Healthcare transactions
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare completed two major transactions, including its previously announced deal that will combine its ambulatory and imaging centers with those of United Surgical Partners International, which is owned by Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.

5. Mid Coast Hospital purchases Parkview Adventist Medical Center
Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, purchased Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy relief June 16.

6. WellStar calls off merger talks with Emory
Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System, the largest nonprofit system in Georgia, scrapped plans to merge with Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare.

7. St. Mary's Health Care System acquires Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center
Athens, Ga.-based St. Mary's Health Care System acquired Lavonia, Ga.-based Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center. 

8. Trinity Health to join Billings Clinic RegionalCare
Trinity Health, a nonprofit health system based in Minot, N.D., signed a letter of intent to become part of Billings Clinic RegionalCare, a joint venture between Billings (Mont.) Clinic and RegionalCare Hospital Partners, based in Brentwood, Tenn.

9. Robinson Health System officially becomes part of University Hospitals: 3 things to know
Ravenna, Ohio-based Robinson Health System officially became part of Cleveland-based University Hospitals.

10. San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in exclusive affiliation discussions
Banning, Calif.-based San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital entered into exclusive affiliation talks with nonprofit Loma Linda (Calif.) University Health and Adventist Health in Roseville, Calif.

11. Adventist closes deal with Lodi Health
Lodi (Calif.) Health officially became part of Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health, closing a deal that involved nearly two years of negotiations.

12. Jasper County Hospital to become part of Franciscan Alliance
Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, Ind., announced plans to join Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Alliance.

13. Silverton Health may become part of Legacy Health
Silverton (Ore.) Health, a single-hospital system, and Legacy Health in Portland signed a letter of intent to affiliate.

14. CHRISTUS Health Louisiana, Ochsner Health System partner
CHRISTUS Health Louisiana, a region of Irving, Texas-based CHRISTUS Health, and New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System formed a strategic partnership.
